Baptism in the Holy Spirit – Memory Helper |
|
|
Believers of all walks and countries and races and gender have the Holy Spirit of God dwelling in them. It was not just the disciples, the apostles or great men and women of the Bible that experienced the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Furthermore, the Scripture tells us that each of us receive the Holy Spirit the moment we believe according to the Word of God. Is there a difference in the indwelling Holy
Spirit and the Baptism in the Holy Spirit?
The following scripture and comments when prayerfully considered should
lead to more fully understanding this important topic. John 1 33And I did not know Him nor recognize Him, but He Who sent
me to baptize [1]
in (with) water said to me, Upon Him Whom you shall see the Spirit descend
and remain, that One is He Who baptizes with the Holy Spirit. 1Cr 3:16 Know
ye not that ye are the temple of God, and [that] the Spirit of God dwelleth
in you? 1Cr 6:19
What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost [which is]
in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? Eph 3:19 And
to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled
with all the fulness of God. 1Jo 4:2
Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus
Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 1Jo 4:6 We
are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not
us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error. 1 Corinthians 12 13For
by [[1]
means of the personal agency of] one [Holy] Spirit we were all, whether Jews
or Greeks, slaves or free, baptized [and [2]
by baptism united together] into one body, and all made to drink of one
[Holy] Spirit. 1 John 5 6This
is He Who came by (with) water and blood [[1]
His baptism and His death], Jesus Christ (the Messiah)--not by (in) the water
only, but by (in) the water and the blood. And it is the [Holy] Spirit Who
bears witness, because the [Holy] Spirit is the Truth. Galatians 5 25If
we live by the [Holy] Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. [If by the Holy
Spirit [1]
we have our life in God, let us go forward [2]
walking in line, our conduct controlled by the Spirit.] Acts 19 2And
he asked them, Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed [on Jesus as
the Christ]? And they said, No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy
Spirit. Luke 4 1THEN
JESUS, full of and controlled by the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan
and was led in [by] the [Holy] Spirit Acts 193And
he asked, Into what [baptism] then were you baptized? They said, Into John's
baptism. 1 Corinthians 12 8To
one is given in and through the [Holy] Spirit [the power to speak] a message
of wisdom, and to another [the power to express] a word of knowledge and
understanding according to the same [Holy] Spirit; Romans 8 9But
you are not living the life of the flesh, you are living the life of the
Spirit, if the [Holy] Spirit of God [really] dwells within you [directs and
controls you]. But if anyone does not possess the [Holy] Spirit of Christ, he
is none of His [he does not belong to Christ, is not truly a child of God].(1) 1 Corinthians 12 4Now
there are distinctive varieties and distributions of endowments (gifts, [1]
extraordinary powers distinguishing certain Christians, due to the power of
divine grace operating in their souls by the Holy Spirit) and they vary, but
the [Holy] Spirit remains the same. Luke 12 10And
everyone who makes a statement or speaks a word against the Son of Man, it
will be forgiven him; but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit [that is,
whoever [1]
intentionally comes short of the reverence due the Holy Spirit], it will not
be forgiven him [for him there is no forgiveness]. 1 Corinthians 14 15Then
what am I to do? I will pray with my spirit [by the [1]
Holy Spirit that is within me], but I will also pray [intelligently] with my
mind and understanding; I will sing with my spirit [by the Holy Spirit that
is within me], but I will sing [intelligently] with my mind and understanding
also. 1 Corinthians 2 4And
my language and my message were not set forth in persuasive (enticing and
plausible) words of wisdom, but they were in demonstration of the [Holy]
Spirit and power [[1]
a proof by the Spirit and power of God, operating on me and stirring in the
minds of my hearers the most holy emotions and thus persuading them], Romans 8 6Now
the mind of the flesh [which is sense and reason without the Holy Spirit] is
death [death that [1]
comprises all the miseries arising from sin, both here and hereafter]. But
the mind of the [Holy] Spirit is life and [soul] peace [both now and
forever]. 1 Corinthians 2 13And
we are setting these truths forth in words not taught by human wisdom but
taught by the [Holy] Spirit, combining and interpreting spiritual truths with
spiritual language [to those who possess the Holy Spirit]. 1 Corinthians 12 7But
to each one is given the manifestation of the [Holy] Spirit [the evidence,
the spiritual illumination of the Spirit] for good and profit. Acts 20 22And
now, you see, I am going to Jerusalem, bound by the [Holy] Spirit and
obligated and compelled by the [convictions of my own] spirit, not knowing
what will befall me there-- 1 Corinthians 12 3Therefore
I want you to understand that no one speaking under the power and influence
of the [Holy] Spirit of God can [ever] say, Jesus be cursed! And no one can
[really] say, Jesus is [my] Lord, except by and under the power and influence
of the Holy Spirit. Exodus 37 29He
also made the holy anointing oil [symbol of the Holy Spirit] and the pure,
fragrant incense, after the perfumer's art. John 7 39But
He was speaking here of the Spirit, Whom those who believed (trusted, had
faith) in Him were afterward to receive. For the [Holy] Spirit had not yet
been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified (raised to honor). 1 Corinthians 2 12Now
we have not received the spirit [that belongs to] the world, but the [Holy]
Spirit Who is from God, [given to us] that we might realize and comprehend
and appreciate the gifts [of divine favor and blessing so freely and
lavishly] bestowed on us by God. Galatians 5 16But
I say, walk and live [habitually] in the [Holy] Spirit [responsive to and
controlled and guided by the Spirit]; then you will certainly not gratify the
cravings and desires of the flesh (of human nature without God). Isaiah 57 15For
thus says the high and lofty One--He Who inhabits eternity, Whose name is
Holy: I dwell in the high and holy place, but with him also who is of a
thoroughly penitent and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble and
to revive the heart of the thoroughly penitent [bruised with sorrow for sin]. Ephesians 3 [This
mystery] was never disclosed to human beings in past generations as it has
now been revealed to His holy apostles (consecrated messengers) and prophets
by the [Holy] Spirit. Hebrews 9 8By
this the Holy Spirit points out that the way into the [true Holy of] Holies
is not yet thrown open as long as the former [the outer portion of the]
tabernacle remains a recognized institution and is still standing, 1 Corinthians 12 9To
another [[1]
wonder-working] faith by the same [Holy] Spirit, to another the extraordinary
powers of healing by the one Spirit; Luke 135Then
the angel said to her, The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of
the Most High will overshadow you [like a shining cloud]; and so the holy
(pure, sinless) Thing (Offspring) which shall be born of you will be called
the Son of God.(1) Ecclesiastes
6 12For who [[1]
limited to human wisdom] knows what is good for man in his life, all the days
of his vain life which he spends as a shadow [going through the motions but
accomplishing nothing]? For who can tell a man what will happen [to his work,
his treasure, his plans] under the sun after he is gone?
Acts 2 4And
they were all filled (diffused throughout their souls) with the Holy Spirit
and began to speak in other (different, foreign) languages (tongues), as the
Spirit [1]
kept giving them clear and loud expression [in each tongue in appropriate
words]. Jude 1 20But
you, beloved, build yourselves up [founded] on your most holy faith [[1]
make progress, rise like an edifice higher and higher], praying in the Holy
Spirit; 1 Corinthians 2 10Yet
to us God has unveiled and revealed them by and through His Spirit, for the
[Holy] Spirit searches diligently, exploring and examining everything, even
sounding the profound and bottomless things of God [the [1]
divine counsels and things hidden and beyond man's scrutiny]. 2 Corinthians 3 6[It
is He] Who has qualified us [making us to be fit and worthy and sufficient]
as ministers and dispensers of a new covenant [of salvation through Christ],
not [ministers] of the letter (of legally written code) but of the Spirit;
for the code [of the Law] kills, but the [Holy] Spirit makes alive.(1) John 20 22And
having said this, He breathed on them and said to them, Receive the Holy
Spirit! Psalm 51 11Cast
me not away from Your presence and take not Your Holy Spirit from me. Acts 8 15And
they came down and prayed for them that the Samaritans might receive the Holy
Spirit; Hebrews 3 7Therefore,
as the Holy Spirit says: Today, if you will hear His voice, Hebrews 10 15And
also the Holy Spirit adds His testimony to us [in confirmation of this]. For
